2026 Reading Plan Reflections - Day 9

Can you hear me?

“Everybody who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise builder who built a house on bedrock. The rain fell, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat against that house. It didn’t fall because it was firmly set on bedrock. But everybody who hears these words of mine and doesn’t put them into practice will be like a fool who built a house on sand. The rain fell, the floods came, and the wind blew and beat against that house. It fell and was completely destroyed.”  Matthew‬ ‭7‬:‭24‬-‭27‬ ‭CEB‬‬
The world is loud right now. Opinions compete for our loyalty, outrage fills the air, and everyone seems convinced their voice deserves the final word. In the middle of that noise, Scripture gently, but firmly, points us back to the one voice that actually gives life: the voice of the LORD.

Jesus closes the Sermon on the Mount with a sobering image. Two builders hear the same words. Both experience the same storm. The difference isn’t the weather—it’s obedience. One hears and acts. The other hears and opts out. And when the storms come—and they always do—the foundation tells the truth.

We believe grace is not passive. God’s grace invites a response. Hearing Jesus’ words without acting on them isn’t neutral; it’s a decision. Holiness isn’t about information stored in our heads but transformation lived out in daily faithfulness. Obedience doesn’t earn grace, but it is how grace takes root.

The question Jesus leaves us with is unsettling and hopeful at the same time: Are we building our lives on what He has said, or on something easier, quicker, more convenient? God’s will is not something we merely admire—it’s something in which we are invited to participate.

The invitation still stands. Hear the voice of the LORD. Trust it. Act on it. Build on the Rock. When the storms come, may it be clear where our foundation lies.
