Day 1: Genesis1-2; Matthew 1

Both Genesis 1 and Matthew 1 remind us of the beautiful symmetry in God's plan...the rhythm of His act of creation and the 14s (7 x 2) His act of re-creation. Yes, He has a plan and He is carrying it out until it reaches its consummation. The Word is very clear that the plan of God is personal for you and me (Jeremiah 29:11; John 3:16; John 14:1). As we begin this new year with its rhythms, with its ebb and flow, trust God, our Father, with your life and everything about it. He, Who created and is re-creating, knows your name (Isaiah 43:1) and carries you in the palm of His hand where your name is written (Isaiah 49:16).

We usually read quickly through the genealogies, and I committed today to slow down and really take in Matthew 1. This time, I started to recognize names… names of kings that I usually struggle with as I read through the books of Kings and Chronicles. But today I was reminded that Jesus not only comes from solid roots (yes, I took license with the pic for the blog post), but he also serves as a King, Lord, and Savior to all of those kings who came before him. He truly is King of kings and Lord of lords.
