The congregation in our church had historically exchanged Christmas cards with one another during the weeks leading up to Christmas. However, for the 2017 Christmas season, the pastor asked if we would do something different. Instead of exchanging Christmas cards, he asked if we would use the money normally spent on buying the cards, to purchase and bring in, cans of food. The cans of food would then be given to the local food pantries. We thought about how the Christmas cards provided words of inspiration that feeds the soul, while the cans of food provided nourishment that feeds the body and we were inspired by God to combine the two. The Can-Covers wrap around cans of food and offer inspirational words (usually bible verses). This combination feeds both body and soul.
