Day 79: Joshua 3-4; Luke 1:57-80

"He has dealt mercifully with our ancestors
and remembered his holy covenant—
the oath that he swore to our father Abraham,
to grant that we,
having been rescued
from the hand of our enemies,
would serve him without fear
in holiness and righteousness
in his presence all our days." (Luke 1:72-75, CSB)

Lent is not only a time of introspection about our humanity in all its weakness, it is also a reminder of God's grace in all its greatness. The work of being Christlike never starts with us. It always starts with Him. He is merciful. He remembers His covenant with us. He rescues us from our enemy (sin and Satan). He has made it possible to serve without fear. He has empowered us to serve in His momentary presence. How? In holiness and righteousness we serve. This requires the Holy Spirit in us (Acts 1:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11). Yes, in us. God does not do this alone, He does His work in us, that He may accomplish His mission through us. Today take time to ponder His present, positive power at work in you...let Him shine out of your jar of clay (2 Corinthians 4:7).
