Day 82: Joshua 9-10; Luke 3

"...but they did not seek the LORD's decision" (Joshua 9:14)

There will always be cunning people whose primary interest is self-preservation and self-promotion. They will prey on good-hearted and compassionate people. When the Gibeonites showed up, they looked a sorry sight. No doubt, the people of Israel and their leader, Joshua, felt sorry for them. Out of their own pity, they assumed the deceivers were speaking the truth, but things are not always what they seem. Here is a hard lesson for all of us. You have to admire Joshua for keeping covenant (with condition), but one wonders how often he, along with Israel, regretted not seeking the LORD's counsel. In everything, seek the One Who knows and sees the heart, and listen to (follow) His decision and direction.

"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; in all your ways know him, and he will make your paths straight." (Proverbs 3:5-6, CSB)
