Day 118: 2 Samuel 19-20; Luke 21:20-38; Day 20 Prayer Journey

Today my personal devotions and prayer journal aligned perfectly. Allow me to share, once again, the words of others.

"The fulfillment of the promise [Luke 24:49] depended on the waiting. And it is significant that it was while they were praying [all together - Acts 1:14; 2:1], resting their expectations on the surety of the promise, that the Holy Spirit fell upon them and they were all filled. The promise and the prayer went hand in hand" (E.M. Bounds)

Sam Vassel reminds us that the unity Jesus prayed for (see yesterday's blog) is not found in "doctrinal consensus, denominational agreement, and/or commitments to shared faith traditions. The basis of the unity of the church is profoundly spiritual. It is a Spirit-mediated induction into a global spiritual community that embraces together the absolute lordship of Jesus Christ..." Yes, it's a mouthful, but ponder his words, then pray his prayer with him.

"Father, deliver us from the evil one, who seeks to destroy our unity. Triune God, fill us with yourself so that your holy love will bind us together as a witness of your grace in a polarized world."
