40 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 25
Day 25 – Monday October 9th
As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”
-1 Peter 1:14-16
Peter implies in this passage that the evil desires which assailed us before knowing Jesus will remain around to tempt us along our journey. Peter instructs his audience, and us, to continue in obedience when these temptations raise their heads. Instead of giving into temptation or ignoring sin, Peter tells us to be “holy in all [we] do.” Holiness is not something that we achieve, it is something we REceive, and it is not possible without God’s sanctifying grace. God doesn’t only forgive our sins, but he delivers us from them. He tells us to be holy, so pray to the Spirit to move in your life and pour sanctifying grace upon you. Pray that the Spirit will move among us when we gather.
