40 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 26
Day 26 – Tuesday October 10th
Jesus replied, “Truly I tell you, if you have faith and do not doubt, not only can you do what was done to the fig tree, but also you can say to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and it will be done. If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.”
-Matthew 21:21-22
When we think of mountains, we may think of beautiful scenery or a challenging hike. They do not, generally, pose much of a problem for us. If they are between us and where we need to go, we just drive around them, or even through them. Sometimes we may fly to the top or to the far side of a mountain range. In Jesus’ day, however, mountains presented more of a problem. Mountains hindered or slowed down travel, and blocked some pathways all together; they couldn’t be ignored, and were impossible to move. This is what Jesus had in mind when he told us our faith could move mountains. He is not saying that in faith we could do what we could somehow accomplish anyway if we just tried harder. He was saying that by faith we can do what would otherwise be completely impossible. REturn to prayer, and as you do, think about what mountains are standing or have stood in your way, and thank your Father for giving you the faith to conquer mountains.
