40 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 27
Day 27 – Wednesday October 11th
On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”
-Acts 1:4-5
Ours is a society that tends to thrive on busyness. We complain about how busy we are, and yet at the same time sometimes feel lost or even guilty when we have nothing to do. The disciples are hearing the words of this passage spoken by the REsurrected Son of God. They must be chomping at the bit to share this Good News with everyone, but Jesus tells them to wait. There was something more they needed. They are instructed to REstrain themselves until they are baptized by the Holy Spirit. Rushing forward before REceiving the sanctifying presence of the Spirit would be attempting to fulfill their calling by their own strength rather than God’s empowerment. Pray that the Spirit lead and guide you as we journey towards our revival gathering, and pray that the baptism of the Spirit will fall upon us as we gather.
