40 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 32

Day 32 – Tuesday October 17th
But if serving the Lord seems undesirable to you, then choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. But as for me and my household, we will serve the Lord.”
-Joshua 24:15

Joshua had been selected to take up the mantle of Moses. He had never desired to be in charge, but here he was. The Israelites were as good at complaining under Joshua’s leadership as they had been under Moses, and they still tended to be only half committed to following God. The passage describes a time of REcommitting to the covenant. Joshua challenges the people to make a firm decision, and it foreshadows Elijah’s challenge on Mt. Caramel: “How long will you waiver between two opinions? If the LORD is God, follow him; but if Ba’al is god, follow him” (1 Kings 18:21).  What gods do you attempt to follow in addition to God? During this time of fasting and the gathering for revival, REturn to your first love. Pray that God help you to REcognize and REject false gods and distractions in your walk with Jesus.
