40 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 35

Day 35 – Friday October 20th
I will praise God’s name in song and glorify him with thanksgiving.
This will please the Lord more than an ox,
more than a bull with its horns and hooves.
The poor will see and be glad— you who seek God, may your hearts live!
-Psalm 69:30-32

I remember an old cartoon about a king’s birthday. I don’t remember the entire story, but there was one scene where the king’s subjects were in a long line to bring their gift to the king. Sometimes when we desire to honor and praise God we also do this. Our mind first goes to what we can give or give up for him. God, however, is not as pleased with material gifts and sacrifices as he is with us simply praising him and thanking him. Bulls and oxen are offered to God in the temple behind the curtain, but singing praise and giving thanks is what you offer God in the context of REdeemed and sanctified RElationhsip. Take some time in prayer to praise and thank God, and invite him to be among us when we gather in praise, for his presence to move powerfully among us, and that we may hear and heed his word.
