Blessing Our Community - Day 18
DAY 18 - Wednesday, April 17, 2024
Hebrews 10:24–25
And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Scripture Insights
In our world today, we tend to position our faith lives around what we receive instead of considering how we can bless. When the church focuses on itself rather than others, we have a harder time persuading the world that Jesus loves them.
Why do you go to church? Are you considering only yourself, or are you also considering how you can encourage others? True community isn’t centered around our needs alone. True community happens when we consider the needs of others before ourselves. What would happen if the members of our churches became more concerned about others than about themselves? We would never lack unity, and we would always have people eager to serve!
What if your individual needs are only fulfilled when you consider others? What if we find true meaning for ourselves by first loving others? Think of your church. Think of the relationship you have with the brothers and sisters in your church. Are you consciously considering how you can help when you gather, or are you only contemplating your own needs? If you focus on yourself, you will struggle with meeting together. If you focus on others, you might find you never want to miss a gathering.
This is all possible; it simply takes making the intentional choice to place others ahead of ourselves. If you find yourself struggling to go to church, start encouraging others any time you are at church, and see if that changes how much you like being there.
Today’s Prayer
Father, help us be people who would rather help others than worry about ourselves. Teach us how to love the way you love. Show us how to sacrifice our lives for the benefit of others.
What is the Spirit saying to you today?
