Blessing Our Community - Day 29

DAY 29 - Sunday, April 28, 2024

Luke 10:34–35
He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. “Look after him,” he said, “and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.”

Scripture Insights
In the story Jesus tells about the Good Samaritan, the Samaritan followed the religious leaders who had their chance and failed to bless the victimized man on the side of the road. This amazing Samaritan then becomes a shorthand reference for loving others. He expresses spontaneous concern. He sees a need, and he responds. His generosity is expressed in his detailed care—bandaged wounds, transportation, housing and meals, all expenses paid. This is generosity.
The Samaritan does not act according to personal judgments about the man’s worthiness. He is the wrong race, the wrong religion, has no way to make repayment—and maybe his injuries are deserved, who knows. Perhaps this Samaritan was the recipient of abundant grace. Those who have received lavish grace are more apt to give grace. These folks travel through life with a grace “care package” ready to give. As recipients of Christ’s grace, we should be prepared to bless others.

Today’s Prayer
May we be like the Good Samaritan. May we have eyes to see needs, hands to serve others, the means to respond generously, and hearts that live our lives out of love for others so that others may see Jesus.
