Day 154: 2 Chronicles 10-12; John 13:21-38

That phrase at the end of John 13:30 always gets me: "And it was night." More personally ominous is John's recording of Judas' experience...'and Satan entered him' (v.27). Of course, the two are related. Ironically, he whose name means 'light' (Lucifer) is the author of 'night'...everything devoid of God, and Jesus Who is the Light of the world. Pity the people walking about, stumbling and fumbling and fuming and fretting in darkness. Their lord is leading them, as he led Judas into eternal night. God help them! God help us reach them! God keep us from ever entertaining the draw of the poser who calls himself light, but is all darkness, night!

Here is the antidote for the night, and the safeguard from ever going there again: "If we walk in the light as he himself is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 1:7, CSB). Then, we can be what Jesus called us to be: the light of the world (Matthew 5:14).
