2026 Reading Plan Reflections - Day 51

Legalism or Love?

“Is it legal on the Sabbath to do good or to do evil, to save life or to kill?” Mark 3:4 CEB

“Whoever does God’s will is my brother, sister, and mother.” Mark 3:35 CEB

A man needs healing. The religious leaders stand in silence. And Jesus asks the question that cuts through everything: "Is the Sabbath about protecting a rule or restoring a person?" When protecting the system matters more than saving a life, we’ve drifted from the heart of God.

Later, Jesus redraws the boundaries of family. Not by bloodline. Not by proximity. But by obedience to the will of the Father.

Two moments, one thread. Are our practices shaped by the fear of getting it wrong, or by love that seeks to do good? Fear builds fences. Love restores people. And holiness, real holiness, always leans toward love.

Faith in Action

Choose mercy over maintenance. When faced with a decision, a rule to enforce, a preference to defend, a system to protect—pause and ask: “What would love do here?” Then do that.
Lord Jesus, guard our hearts from rigid religion. When we are tempted to defend rules more than love people, correct us. Teach us to do good, to save life, to reflect Your heart. Shape our obedience by Your love. Amen.
