2026 Reading Plan Reflections - Day 1

But you must continue with the things you have learned and found convincing. You know who taught you. Since childhood you have known the holy scriptures that help you to be wise in a way that leads to salvation through faith that is in Christ Jesus.
Every scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for showing mistakes, for correcting, and for training character, so that the person who belongs to God can be equipped to do everything that is good.
-2 Timothy 3:14-17

A New Year. A New Plan.

Today, we start with the why...

For at least the past 15 years, we have endeavored as a church to read through the Bible together in a year. We've tried many approaches, book by book, including a psalm per day, chronological, even plans with and without help material. There is value in such an endeavor. The more we engage with God's living, breathing Word, the more God's character is revealed to us. As we understand more about who God is, we are better equipped to recognize God's presence in all situations.

With this framework in mind, we enter into an intentional slowdown with this year's Bible reading plan. We're going to focus just on the New Testament.

Yes, the entire arch of the story of God in the world is important. The graphic below illustrates the interwoven nature of the story of God better than any words could.
And our investment in reading the whole Bible, Old and New Testaments, has laid a firm foundation. God's character has been revealed. We see it. We recognize it. We lean into it.

So this year, based on all we have experienced about God's character, let us approach God's work in the world through the person of the Son, Jesus, our Savior. From there, we will see how the Holy Spirit filled God's people to do amazing work in the world. This is the story that is still being written today. As we are ignited by the Spirit, chaped by the cross of Christ, and sent in the love of the Father, we participate in God's will for all of creation - that none should perish, but have everlasting life.

The structure of this reading plan will afford opportunity for space to consider and process what we've read. Instead of multiple chapters a day, we will read, on average, about 22 verses per day together. Let us all be encouraged to soak in these words as fuel for our souls, equipping us to do all God calls us to do.

I look forward to this journey together.
