New Year Prayer Focus

As we begin a new year, we pause to listen for God’s voice and offer ourselves again to His transforming grace. This guide is designed to help us pray deliberately and faithfully, rooted in our Wesleyan Holiness heritage and oriented toward a life ignited by the Spirit, shaped by the cross of Christ, and sent in the Father’s love.

1. Surrender & Entire Devotion — Ignited by the Spirit

SCRIPTURE: ROMANS 12:1–2

Prayer Points:
  • Offer yourself fully to God—heart, mind, body, and future.
  • Ask for a fresh filling of the Holy Spirit.
  • Pray for cleansing from habits, fears, or distractions that dull your faith.
  • Commit yourself to obedient living empowered by grace.

Prayer Prompt: Lord, I offer myself to You again—my plans, my priorities, and my will.

2. Repentance & Refinement — Shaped by the Cross

SCRIPTURE: LUKE 9:23; 1 JOHN 1:7–9

Prayer Points:
  • Confess known and hidden sin.
  • Release pride, bitterness, resentment, or complacency.
  • Ask God to reshape attitudes and behaviors through Christ’s sacrifice.
  • Receive forgiveness and renewal through grace.

Prayer Prompt: Jesus, shape my life by Your cross. Remove what does not reflect You.

3. Holy Love in Community — Shaped by the Cross

SCRIPTURE: JOHN 13:34–35; COLOSSIANS 3:12–15

Prayer Points:
  • Pray for unity rooted in Christ.
  • Ask for healing in strained or broken relationships.
  • Seek patience, humility, and grace in community life.
  • Pray that love would mark every interaction.

Prayer Prompt: Lord, teach us to love one another with holy, Christlike love.

4. Calling & Sending — Sent in the Father’s Love

SCRIPTURE: JOHN 20:21; MATTHEW 28:18–20

Prayer Points:
  • Pray for clarity of personal calling.
  • Ask for courage to live your faith openly and faithfully.
  • Lift up workplaces, schools, neighborhoods, and ministries.
  • Commit to obedience wherever God sends you.

Prayer Prompt: Father, send me where You will, to serve whom You love.

5. Trust & Hope for the Year Ahead — Together in Grace

SCRIPTURE: LAMENTATIONS 3:22–23; PHILIPPIANS 1:6

Prayer Points:
  • Place the unknowns of the coming year in God’s hands.
  • Pray for peace in uncertainty.
  • Ask for perseverance and strength.
  • Trust God to complete His work in you and among us.

Prayer Prompt: Lord, I trust You with what I cannot yet see.

A Prayer of Devotion

Lord, we offer ourselves again.
Ignite us by Your Spirit.
Shape us by the cross of Christ.
Send us in the Father’s love.
Make us holy in heart, faithful in action, and bold in witness.
