Day 169: Nehemiah 7-8; Acts 3:1-10

Happy Father's Day!

There is a time for mourning and a time for joy. Nehemiah 8 reminds me that though my heart may be corrected by the Word, though I will always stand in God's presence with a sense of His holiness and glory and the keen knowledge of the distance between who I am and who I should be, there are times that must be given over to celebration, to joy. Indeed, the joy of the LORD is my strength (Nehemiah 8:10). It is refreshing to see how choosing joy and rejoicing led Israel back to living out the Word, which led again to greater joy. Joy begets joy. And there was joy in all Israel, tremendous joy (Nehemiah 8:17). No doubt, our Acts reading has joy written all over it...walking and leaping and praising God (Acts 3:8)...joy!

Today, I have every reason to choose joy...to rejoice. I am Abba's child and He loves me, and that is all I need to know. Yes, He is my Father and in Him, I choose joy.
