Day 190: Job 38-40; Acts 15:1-21

It is difficult to overestimate the conversation of Acts 15. At its core is this belief: the death of Jesus was not sufficient to forgive the sins of the world and His grace not enough to offer salvation full and free. If the Jerusalem Council would have affirmed the Judaizers (proponents of embracing the Covenant of Abraham and Law of Moses before you could become a follower of Jesus), that would have been the end of Christianity. That is the implication. Thank God they held fast to the grace of God in Christ and work of the Holy Spirit in changed hearts and lives across the Roman Empire! In giving their answer, they held fast to Jesus' Word and satisfied the core of their Jewish faith without calling for a return to its practice. God gave the Early Church Spirit-wisdom. The Western church, primarily, is having conversations that shake our faith to the core. These are days that call us to be like the Early Church. Hold fast to the Word and live in the revelation of the Holy Spirit at work through the ages from the Jerusalem Council onward. Today, pray for the Church to stay true to Her Lord and His Word. This is where His blessing lies. And, Christ will continue to build His Church until He comes again!
