Day 216: Psalms 70-72; Romans 4

Could you imagine a religion that depended on our good works alone? Actually, I am quite certain you can. These have made their presence know in our world, and not in ways that are convincing concerning the common good of humanity. You can also picture those who have made Christianity a religion of good works. These 'works' proponents are often the most insufferable people. They have a code they live by and judge everyone based on that code. No one measures up. Of this you can be certain, you will know about everyone who is judged and found wanting. Interestingly, they find loopholes in their own code that justify their unbecoming behavior and prove the Psalms Paul quotes in Romans 3:10f...there is none righteous, no not one. Thanks be to God for Jesus, our Propitiation (see Day 215). So, it is by faith that we are justified and made right with God. And, it is by faith that our gracious God invites us into a deepening right relationship with Him. It is by faith, ever-increasing faith. Hold on! Keep on believing and living your faith...God is the gracious rewarder of those who diligently seek Him! Abraham is proof of that (Romans 4).
