Day 220: Psalms 77-79; Romans 7

"Has God forgotten to be gracious? Has he in anger withheld his compassion?" the Psalmist asks in Psalm 77:9 (CSB). The answer comes at length in Psalm 78, recounting the history of Israel's rebellion and God's grace and compassion, ending with the implied promise to David's house of an eternal monarchy (we know this is through Jesus, King of kings). Romans 7 recounts that struggle with inbred sin but comes up with this marvelous conclusion about God's gracious, compassionate provision in King Jesus, our Savior. Read Romans 7:24-25 in The Message and The Passion Translation.

I’ve tried everything and nothing helps. I’m at the end of my rope. Is there no one who can do anything for me? Isn’t that the real question? The answer, thank God, is that Jesus Christ can and does. He acted to set things right in this life of contradictions where I want to serve God with all my heart and mind, but am pulled by the influence of sin to do something totally different. (TM)

Who will free me from this body of death? I give all my thanks to God, for his mighty power has finally provided a way out through our Lord Jesus, the Anointed One! (TPT)

Thanks be to God through our Lord Jesus Christ!!!
