Day 239: Psalms 128-130; 1 Corinthians 7:25-40

Real people who loved God and were on their own spiritual journey, these are the ones who penned the words we read in the Word of God. I am not certain how literalists explain 1 Corinthians 7:25-40 that begins and ends with Paul saying that this is his 'opinion.' He very clearly acknowledges that he is walking in the power of the Holy Spirit, but is humble enough to say: 'This is what I think.' Don't get me wrong, he is very clear about Truth. Most of what he writes is not opinion. However, the man's personality shines through it all. He is a real person, and his own journey with Jesus comes through. Sometimes I wonder about his opinion about marriage, but at the heart of it all, he reminds us to keep the Lord the center of our lives...this is the call of Christ, and this is the only way to thrive, married or not. Take this to heart!

This passage is just another reason I love the Word of God. He is not just God in heaven, He is God in the midst of people and in pursuit of people. He invites people into partnership with Him, and uses real people surrendered to Him, inspired by His Spirit, to record His Word for real people like you and me. Yes, the Bible truly speaks to you and me!
