Day 252: Proverbs 13-14; 1 Corinthians 16

The one who oppresses the poor person insults his Maker, but one who is kind to the needy honors him. (Proverbs 14:31, CSB)

I have heard it said that 'poor' may be true not only in material circumstances, but also personal capacities, much like the 'little ones' that Jesus talked about were not only children. The truth is that every person is created in the image of God and every person matters to God. If they matter to God, they should matter to us. We live in a world that often takes advantage of the 'poverty' of others to manipulate them and use them to advance their own purpose and agenda, whether that be greed or power or pleasure. Too often, the ones they oppress have no voice and no advocates. Their abuse is the worst kind. God takes note, and their end will be severe.

In the mean time, those who join their Maker in the kindness and grace they show to 'the needy' not only acknowledge the personhood of those they serve and advocate for, they actually are honoring our heavenly Father. I thank God that I live among a family that does just that! Thank you for your genuine concern for and kindness shown for Jesus' sake and in His name! Keep on honoring your Maker as you genuinely show kindness to those in need.
