Day 259: Proverbs 28-29; 2 Corinthians 7

Fearing human beings is a snare; but he who trusts in ADONAI will be raised high [above danger]. Proverbs 29:25 (Complete Jewish Bible)

There may be another way of reading the word 'fear' in Proverbs 29:25. Could it also be seen as 'reverence' (as in the application to God)? Either way, giving too much authority to mankind; placing them in a position above God, this is a snare and snares lead to death. In a world that worships humanity and lives in fear of those in control, there is no hope of true life. God, Himself, is life and light and hope and peace. Those who 'fear' Him and trust Him are raised up in life that is eternal and abundant, and live in the true freedom that comes in the security of His presence. Did He not say, "I will never leave you nor forsake you!" Therefore we say with confidence, the LORD is my Helper! I will not be afraid. For what can mankind do to me? They are mere mortals, He is LORD!
