40 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Day 19

Day 19 – Monday October 2nd
Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
-Philippians 2:3-4

Christ’s Kingdom, in many ways, is completely opposite from the way the rest of the world exists. The world says that we should look out for ourselves first and foremost, but Jesus says that the first shall be last. The world says to keep people at a ‘safe’ distance as acquaintances, but Jesus invites us to love, to be vulnerable and, when necessary, to turn the other cheek. The world encourages us to be ambitious, to climb the ladder, to reach the top, but Jesus instructs that it is less important to become the captain of the boat than it is to ensure everyone can get on board. It can be difficult to follow Jesus’ leading when the rest of the world is telling us to go a different direction. In fact, it is only by grace and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit that we are able to at all. During your prayer time today, pray for those around you, both those who have accepted Christ and those who haven’t. Pray that God will help you to love and serve them, and put them above yourself, and REcommit to following wherever the Spirit leads.
