Day 301: Jeremiah 20-22; 2 Timothy1

"I recall your sincere faith that first lived in your grandmother Lois and in your mother Eunice and now, I am convinced, is in you also." (2 Timothy 1:5, CSB)

I love it when the Bible names people. This faith is real, it is personal, it affects persons and applies to the same, and real people evidence how living God's way invites God's blessing. From Acts, we know that Timothy's father was Greek. We are not told if he was a believer. However, Paul is clear in this letter that Timothy has a generational influence in the faith...Grandmother Lois, Mother Eunice, and now his own. And, Paul emphasizes Timothy's making it personal...he is 'convinced' it is in Timothy. Never underestimate the power of that influence from generation to generation. It is more than passing on good teaching and practice, it is the power of blessing, the presence of God in the midst of the household, forming the home into a household of faith where He dwells as the center. Truly, only eternity will measure your generational investment. Do you know that you have not been perfect at it? Join the human race! Do you know that God takes our genuine and surrendered efforts at godly parenting and completes what we lack for His glory and our good? And, do you remember He is God of the second chance?

Live for Jesus before those you love...generation upon generation. He is with and in you and He will honor your faith passed down!
