Day 313: Jeremiah 49-50; Hebrews 5

"It was easy for Jesus. After all, He was/is God." Have you ever heard that said? Perhaps you have at least thought it, if you have not spoken it. Though the letter to the Hebrews focuses on who Christ is in totality, the writer reminds us of Jesus' total identification with us. He, God, became a man and walked in our experience (Hebrews 2:14-18; 4:15). These remind us that the extent of His human journey includes being tempted in every way as are we...yet, He did not sin. Today we read: "During his earthly life, he offered prayers and appeals with loud cries and tears to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was the Son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. After he was perfected, he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him..." (Hebrews 5:7-9, CSB). Jesus' human experience drove Him to the Father in utter dependence and obedient surrender. His example for us is vital. Walking as He did is life. Here is our advantage to succeed. Jesus is walking with us, His power within us through the Holy Spirit. The power the Spirit imparts is power to live victoriously (Romans 8). Come, let us be Christians who are becoming like Christ because we live in His presence by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I will say that sometimes I wish that I could have walked and talked with Jesus as the apostles did. Although I know that I could not have their faith and willingness to sacrifice their lives.

I am with you there...I would love to have been physically present with Jesus in His earthly existence. I am not so sure their faith did not compare to yours and mine at times. Grateful for their Spirit-filled growth and maturity...it becomes an example and encouragement to me.
