Day 343: Daniel 11-12; 3 John

Daniel's conversation at the end of the book reminds me of the disciples' conversation with Jesus before He ascends to heaven. Daniel in essence asks: "How will this end?" (Daniel 12:8), while the disciples ask: "When will you be back?" (Acts 1:6). They both basically get the same answer: "It's not for you to know...go about your [My] business" (Daniel 12:9; Acts 1:7). Once again, they are all told to 'wait' (Daniel 12:12; Luke 24:49; Acts 1:4). Not just any kind of waiting, however, but waiting with anticipation and expectation. For us, the waiting comes with the promised gift of the empowering Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8). Waiting is impossible alone. Waiting in the Spirit helps us occupy ourselves with God's present purpose in anticipation of His ultimate purpose being revealed. Come, Holy Spirit! Come into our waiting and fill it with Your Presence.
