Day 1: Genesis 1-3; Psalm 1

Blessed New Year!

As my devotions drew to a close last year (which was yesterday), I read these words from E.M. Bounds in The Power of Prayer:  "God accepts our prayers through the atoning blood, and gives Himself, His presence, and His grace in return." Bounds states on many occasions that God, who is Truth, has bound Himself to His Word. So, praying His Word gives us the assurance of His answers when we seek Him with all our hearts, by His grace. This gave me an idea. What if we prayed through His Word as we read His Word together again? Here goes:

"Almighty Creator, Sovereign and Supreme, Promise-Keeping LORD,
with the power of Your spoken word, You created all there is.
We are in awe of Your Majesty and Glory!
Your creation is breathtaking in splendor and diversity.
We are amazed that You made us to be like You.
We know our weakness and failure...You know these better,
yet You have offered mercy and grace from the beginning.
Humbly we seek Your forgiveness and plead for Your help in right-living.
Thank You that we know that You are not only the God of creation, but the God of re-creation!
Thank You that today You invite us to delight in Your presence and walk in Your way, even in the cool of the day...You want a relationship with us...
we are beyond blessed and deeply grateful!
So, today, we glory in Your presence.
My our journey also bring you joy and glory.
In the name of Jesus. Amen!"

How comforting are the words of this prayer-... not only the God of Creation, but the God of re-creation." Hope for the future.
