Day 88: Judges 19; Psalm 88

Father,
I am struck by the last line of the Psalmist in 88: "...darkness is my closest friend" (v.18, NIV). This is heightened by my study for tonight, Holy Thursday, of John 13 and 'The Last Supper' where Judas left to carry out his unthinkable plan and John records: "And it was night." (John 13:30b). Darkness is a place to hide, to escape, to engage in unseen activity which is all too often unhealthy and can easily become diabolical. Father, there have been times in my life that I have retreated into the darkness...and it was not good. Thank You for Your forgiveness. Help me ever to live as a child of the Light. Help me to run into the morning of Your presence and live soaking up the rays of Your love. May my life reflect Your Light. And, if I am tempted to run into the darkness to hide, please, be the glory, the brilliant light, round about me and the One Who lifts my head. Be my shield and salvation, the strength of my life, my Light. Thank You that You always hear me and answer me. In the Name of Jesus. Amen!

As a child, I was frightened by the dark. But, since, I too have tried to hide from God in the dark. It was with good reason that I was scared of the dark.
