Day 153: 2 Chronicles 7-9; John 13:1-20

Jesus replied to him, “You do not realize now what I am doing, but you will [fully] understand it later.” (John 13:7, AMP)

Can you identify? What? Wait? What's going on here? The Rabbi would never stoop to do the work of a slave, yet the Great Rabbi was washing his disciples' feet. Everyone knew the disciples served every desire and need of the Rabbi, yet these disciples in this moment were too busy vying for first place. Jesus served His clueless disciples. He knew what He was doing. They did not. One day soon, however, they would grasp the power of this selfless, others-valuing act of service. Then they would spend a lifetime learning to follow the example.

There might be something in your present context that leaves you with a 'what/wait' in your conversations with Jesus. You are not alone. The first word of 'understanding' that Jesus uses is contextual...what is seen may not be fully grasped, the puzzle pieces of life don't seem to be fitting together, my limited perception doesn't stretch out that far. Hold on! You will get it...completely! The second word Jesus uses for 'understanding' means to have an intimate and personal knowledge of what is going on...to know inside and out.

Here is a promise from Jesus to you: "You may not get it now, but I do! Keep on keeping on, and you will get it fully. I'll make sure of that! And, in the mean time, thanks for trusting me. Upon my life and death and life, you can depend on me!"
