40 Days of Prayer and Fasting - Sunday Feast - You are the Light of the World
Sunday Feast! No Fast Today!
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead, they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
-Matthew 5:14-16
When we read in the sermon on the mount about hilltop towns not being hidden and candles not being under bowls, we find what Jesus is saying to be fairly obvious. Who would try to hide a city on a hill? Its presence is obvious to everyone in the surrounding area. Why would someone cover up a lamp? That would take away the whole point of there being a lamp. Unfortunately, what Jesus was warning against happens fairly often, even if it is sometimes unintentional. While we are not to brag about our good deeds or attempt to use them to bring ourselves glory, we are not to hide them either. The way we lead our lives and the good deeds that our faith leads us to should bring glory to God and lead others to Jesus. Pray and ask Jesus to help you live your life in a way that brings glory to him and REflects his character.
