Day 18: Genesis 42-43; Matthew 14:22-36
by Jonathan Merki on January 18th, 2023
Jacob asked his sons a very practical question: "Why are you sitting around staring at each other? Go!" (Genesis 42:1). The famine was severe. They needed food and had none. They knew there was plenty in Egypt. There was no divine revelation necessary. Use your God-given power of reason and take action. Go get food!Jesus told the hunger-satisfied disciples: "Go ahead. I'll catch up with you later ... Read More

Day 17: Genesis 41; Matthew 14:1-21
by Jonathan Merki on January 17th, 2023
Galatians 5:6"For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision counts for anything, but only faith working through love." (ESV)"When you’re joined to the Anointed One, circumcision and religious obligations can benefit you nothing. All that matters now is living in the faith that works and expresses itself through love." (TPT)You and I know what lies ahead for Joseph...a grand and drama... Read More

Day 16: Genesis 38-40; Matthew 13:24-58
by Jonathan Merki on January 16th, 2023
True faith cannot be destroyed by disappointment...it is trust in a God Who sees and is in the bigger picture. Despite the wrong that had been done to Joseph, and it was extreme, he continued to walk in God's way and bear fruit in his undeserved circumstances. Were he not there, would he have gained an audience with Pharaoh? So God honored Joseph's trust and made his suffering a bridge to his sign... Read More

Day 15: Matthew 12:22-13:23
by Jonathan Merki on January 15th, 2023
The Kingdom of Heaven"Your kingdom come...(6:10)." "...the the kingdom of God has come...(12:28)." "The kingdom of heaven is like...(13:24,31,33,44,45,47)." Now and then. Already and not yet. This wonderful and divine tension exists between the present reality and the future promise. The truth is, where Jesus is, there is the Kingdom. No, we have not received all we have been promised, and so we l... Read More

Day 14: Genesis 33-37
by Jonathan Merki on January 14th, 2023
And so the convoluted journey of fallen, chosen humanity continues...or should I say chosen, fallen humanity? It seems not to matter much. What is evident can be clearly seen in lives governed by the 'flesh'...because of sin, we are prone to fall. Here, anger and vengeance, pride and favoritism, jealousy and hatred all dictate reactions that resolve nothing and create greater problems. Sin begets ... Read More

Day 13: Genesis 31-32; Matthew 12:1-21
by Jonathan Merki on January 13th, 2023
Our Father is the Sovereign and Supreme God, God Alone, the Only God, who remembers (Genesis 31:13). The deceitful Jacob fleeing for his life encountered the God who pursues us at Luz, and having a face-to-face conversation with God, Jacob renames the place Bethel (House of God). Here was God remembering Jacob's covenant with Him (Genesis 28:18-22) and His covenant with Abraham (Genesis 15). We se... Read More
