Day 274: Isaiah 19-21; Ephesians 2

It was a heavenly serendipity (some may feel this is a contradiction of terms, I don't). I opened an old box of books, tucked away for more than a decade, and right on top was a spiritual classic by O. Hallesby entitled Prayer. Joy! I have read excerpts in different writers, but never the book itself. I am lapping it up. From the outset he writes that prayer has two conditions: helplessness and faith. Here is a simple quote I would like to leave with you, along with a couple verses you know well.

"Prayer and helplessness are inseparable.  Only he who is helpless can truly pray...Your helplessness is your best prayer. It calls from your heart to the heart of God with greater effect than all your uttered pleas." (O. Hellesby)

"God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it." (Ephesians 2:8-9, NLT)

I really like this. I feel a connection and soothing when I pray a "helpless " prayer- that I get from nowhere and no one else. I want to make Jesus the first One that I go to for help. No human can be what He is. Also, am praying for you for all that you do.
