Day 351: Amos 7-9; Obadiah; Revelation 7

Pause.

Between sections of the Psalms you will often see the word, 'Selah.' It is believed to be a call to pause the prayer/praise/song to ponder what has been written and sung...reflection is a powerful discipline for living in (and out) the Word of God. The Revelation has very noteworthy 'selahs' in the unfolding of God's plan through the opening of the seals, the blasting of the trumpets, and the pouring out of the bowls. In every case, between numbers 6 and 7, there is a pause for something that deserves pondering to take place. Revelation 7 is the pause between seals 6 and 7. There is so much there that chapters are written in commentaries. Consider a part of this one verses: "After this I looked, and there was a vast multitude from every nation, tribe, people, and language, which no one could number..." (Revelation 7:9a, CSB). One path in pausing to ponder takes me back to God's promise to Abraham. All nations would be blessed through Him (Genesis 12:3) , his offspring would be as numerous as the dust of the earth (Genesis 13:16 - can you count dust?), and as countless as the stars in the sky (Genesis 15:5 - can you number stars?). God kept His promise to Abraham and in John's vision, though it is not so stated, Abraham is present to witness God's faithfulness. The greatest promise ever made was that of a Savior. God kept that promise. Every promise He makes He keeps. Ponder this truth. Believe, as Abraham did, and give God glory!
