Day 354: Micah 3; Revelation 10

No doubt you have used the phrase: knowing enough to be dangerous. There are those who capitalize on this notion. For instance, in the days of South Africa's transition from apartheid, there were strong factions 'at war' with each other to gain control of the new government. If you heard the media, the whole country was in civil war. Not so! The fighting was regional. It was serious, for certain, but most of the country was not in the conflict. Prior to that, sanctions were imposed on the nation that was moving into transitional government. The sanctions were based on a lack of knowing the whole picture. They hurt the people they were designed to help and gave fuel to the fire of the factions in conflict. Enough information to be dangerous. You can make the same case about all the medical information that is at our fingertips (or on our search engines). Certainly knowledge is power, but do you know people who self-diagnose and miss-diagnose? They end up having every possible symptom and in the long run are sick for no good reason. The worst case of knowing enough to be dangerous has to do with eternity. Too many people have bits and pieces of the truth, and they appease their consciences with the little they know. Of course, many consider themselves experts in all matters spiritual. The pride of life has blinded them to their true spiritual poverty. It is for these people, and for us, that God has sealed up the tiny scroll (Revelation 10:4) and has 'mysteries' that will not be revealed until the time is right and full (Revelation 10:7). There are some things we are not meant to know and do not need to know until we know fully one day (1 Corinthians 13:12). In the meantime, we can trust the One Who loves us unconditionally and Who is totally in control, working out His eternal plan.
