Day 147: 1 Chronicles 20-21; John 10:22-42; Day 49 Prayer Journal

David answered Gad, “I’m in anguish. Please, let me fall into the LORD’s hands because his mercies are very great, but don’t let me fall into human hands.” (1 Chronicles 21:13, CSB)

It is true! God forgives completely and remembers our sins against us no more! On the other hand, humans have long memories and, apart from God, can hold our sins over us for a lifetime. Sometimes the recipients of mercy are the most merciless (there just might be a parable about that). Praise God that His mercies are new every morning! Great is His faithfulness!

While grace is freely offered, it is not 'cheap grace.' Grace received calls us to live as recipients of grace should...changed. King David recognizes this: “No, I insist on paying the full price, for I will not...offer burnt offerings that cost me nothing.” (v.24)

As we move toward Pentecost tomorrow, these truths seem very fitting. 120 followers of Jesus, sold-out-to-Him disciples, had surrendered absolutely everything to the One Who had given His life for them. They were in a ready place to receive the Promise of the Holy Spirit. He is here today. He is ready and waiting to be poured out afresh. Are we ready?

Hear these words from my E.M. Bounds devotional: "God takes nothing by halves. He gives nothing by halves. We can have the whole of Him when He has the whole of us."
