Day 209: Psalms 50-52; Acts 27:1-26
by Jonathan Merki on July 27th, 2023
"...you thought I was just like you." (Psalm 50:21, CSB)Do words or phrases ever catch your attention in your through-the-Bible reading? Today, the words above really struck me. The silence of God (re-read the Psalm) does not infer His approval of evil behavior, nor does it indicate His lack of awareness of the evil intent of the hearts of people, and it especially does not prove His failure to ju... Day 208: Psalms 47-49; Acts 26
by Jonathan Merki on July 26th, 2023
"But make sure that in your hearts you honor Christ as Lord. Always be ready to give an answer to anyone who asks you about the hope you have. Be ready to give the reason for it. But do it gently and with respect." (1 Peter 3:15, NIRV)Excuses abound to the conviction that comes when challenged with the Truth. I know you have heard this before and will hear it again (Acts 26:24-31). Festus' exclama... Read More

Day 207: Psalms 44-46; Acts 25
by Jonathan Merki on July 25th, 2023
"I appeal to Caesar" (Acts 25:11)It's been more than two years since Paul has been imprisoned, the object of curiosity with no serious indication of a fair trial. The new governor is still playing political games and Paul's life is once again endangered. Enough is enough! Paul was promised by God that he would witness in Rome (Acts 23:11). His right as a Roman citizen was to have a fair trial at t... Read More

Day 206: Psalms 42-43; Acts 24
by Jonathan Merki on July 24th, 2023
Curiosity can be a dangerous thing if it is only concerned with information and not transformation. Felix is a prime example of this in Acts 24:24-26. Paul was a curiosity to him. Obviously the Jewish leadership was obsessed with Paul's punishment (and removal, especially by death). Felix, being married to a Jewish woman, was curious about what Paul could have done to inspire such devoted hatred. ... Read More

Days 204-205: Psalms 36-41; Acts 22:30-23:35
by Jonathan Merki on July 23rd, 2023
This weekend, I am truly weekending...lots of driving long hours. Grateful for the Word, grace...and protection!"I have been young and now I am old,yet I have not seen the righteous abandoned..." (Psalm 37:25a, CSB).Some may challenge this truth. The Psalmist has reminded us through the chapters we have read that life has been full of the consequences of his own sins and the sins of others against... Read More

Day 203: Psalms 34-35; Acts 21:37-22:29
by Jonathan Merki on July 21st, 2023
'O taste and see that the LORD is good...' (Psalm 34:8)This is an invitation to intimacy. Someone may argue that there is no way to physically experience through taste our invisible, immortal, eternal 'I AM'! The Psalmist would argue and stand upon experience that there is an intimacy with God that is deeper and more real than anything tangible to the physical senses. You, most likely, could join ...
